Doctor

  • Dr. Rick Beldegreen


    Dr. Rick Beldegreen received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his veterinary degree at the University of Florida in 1985.  He moved to Charlotte in 1986 and opened Newell Hickory Animal Hospital in NE Charlotte in 1987.  After his veterinary business outgrew his first hospital location, he built his "dream hospital", Stoney Creek Animal Hospital, which opened during the summer of 2000. 

    Dr. Beldegreen has a special interest in soft tissue & orthopedic surgery.  In addition to caring for his canine and feline patients, Dr B has volunteered his veterinary services to the Carolina Raptor Center since 1987.  He has performed orthopedic surgery on many birds of prey, repairing broken legs and wings on injured hawks, eagles and owls. 
     
    Dr. Beldegreen is a member of
    World Vets.
       World Vets (www.worldvets.com)  is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing veterinary services  to areas in need around the globe.  

    Dr. Beldegreen is credentialed to perform stem cell implantation for treatment of osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease.  To learn more about this new and exciting treatment modality for pets with arthritis visit www.vet-stem.com.  

    Pre-empting his veterinary career, Dr B spent 7 years as the Supervisor of Animal Care for Sea World in Orlando, Fla. where he helped supervise the daily care of whales, dolphins, seals, walrus, manatees and an avian collection of waterfowl, flamingos, macaws, and penguins. 

    When not at work, Dr. B can often be seen working up a sweat at the downtown YMCA.  Dr B's family consists of his wife Gigi; daughters Erica and Loren; dogs Kodi & Tanner.

  • Dr. Jill Pascarella


    Dr. Pascarella was born in Boston, Mass. and was raised in South Florida.  She received her undergraduate and veterinary degrees from the University of Florida (Go Gators!).  After graduating from veterinary school she moved to Massachusetts and completed an intership in small animal medicine and surgery.  After completing her internship, she practiced emergency medicine in Massachusetts until recently relocating to Charlotte.  Dr. Pascarella's family includes her husband Joe and 2 dogs (Devi and Blue) and 2 cats (Walter and Badger).  Dr Pascarella has a special interest in feline medicine and  infectious and immune-mediated diseases.  In her spare time she enjoys the outdoors, reading, going to the movies and spending time with her family.  Vetsuite_Img_37441

  • Dr. Joanna Gelfman


    Dr. Gelfman graduated from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, but her true allegiance remains with her undergraduate school, University of Virginia (go ‘Hoos).  After finishing veterinary school, she moved to the DC area in order to complete a rotating internship in small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency medicine. She relocated to Charlotte in 2007 to be with her husband, Jason. She worked as a relief veterinarian in the Charlotte area before joining Stoney Creek Animal Hospital. Her interests in veterinary medicine include general medicine, surgery, and emergency medicine. 

     

    When not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their goofy retriever, Chester.  She also enjoys exercising, reading, and traveling.

  • Dr. Jackie Whitlock


    Dr. Whitlock is originally from Pennsylvania but has lived in the south for nearly 15 years.  She settled in Charlotte after completing her veterinary degree at the University of Georgia.  She received both her Bachelor's degree in Marine Science and Master's degree in Earth and Environmental Resource Management at the University of South Carolina.  Dr. Whiltlock has a special interest in internal medicine, ophthalmology and clincal pathology. 
    In her free time, Dr. Whitlock enjoys exercising, reading, and spending time with her friends and family.  Her family inlcudes her husband Jon, 3 dog children; Toby, Lola-bean and Ozzie and her fish, Bubblez.

  • Dr. Maria Syska


    Dr. Maria Syska joined Stoney Creek Animal Hospital after completing a Small Animal Internship.  Originally from Pennsylvania, Dr. Syska obtained her BS in Biology from Washington & Lee University in Virginia and returned to the Philadelphia region to obtain her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
    Dr. Syska shares her home with her Ragdoll kitty Phoebe and her parrot Taz.
    Volunteer work has always been important to Dr. Syska and she has been involved in therapeutic horseback riding for many years.
    In the summer of 2009, Dr. Syska was honored to be named a Mecklengburg Times Healthcare Hero.

Management

  • Dennis Rapp


    Dr. Beldegreen has known Dennis since 1987 as a client.  In 1993 Dennis took early retirement from IBM and formed his own home improvement & remodeling company.  Over the past 10 years, Dennis built a strong customer base for his home repair business.  One of his steady customers has been Dr. Beldegreen and Stoney Creek Animal Hospital.
     
    In 2003, Dennis was hired to be the Hospital & Facility Manager for Stoney Creek Animal Hospital.  Dennis brings his expertise as a former IBM manager and his talent as an extraordinary "handyman" to our hospital to help insure that our staff and facility are maintaned in top notch working order.
     
    Dennis lives in Mint Hill with his wife Stacie and 3 dogs, Fred , Rosalita and Nina.  Dennis & Stacie have a son, Josh.

Technician

  • Angie Piojda


    Angie Piojda is a Veterinary Technician who has been working for Dr. Beldegreen since 1989.  She assists the Doctors in everything they do while also providing intensive care nursing for our hospitalized patients.  In addition to these responsibilities, Angie also oversees the daily activites of our team of technicians. Angie shares her time away from work caring for her dog Kylie and riding her 2 horses.

  • Linda Engelman , RVT


    Linda Engelmann is a Registered Veterinary Technician who joined our hospital in 2000.  She earned her degree in veterinary technology at Gaston College.  Linda is affectionately known as the "cat lady" as she has that special "knack" with our feline patients.  Linda does a great job coordinating our Stoney Creek Kitty Adoption Program. She also has 6 cats of her own. 
    Linda has a special interest in veterinary dentistry and is one of our best dental technicians. During her time off, Linda can often be found volunteering at the Carolina Raptor Center where her husband Matthias oversees the raptor rehabilitation program.

  • Cari Vince , RVT


    Cari is one of our Registered Veterinary Technicians.  After earning her degree from Gaston College, she joined our team of technicians in 2001.  She assists our veterinarians in their daily activiites in the exam rooms and in surgery.  She provides gentle nursing care to our hospitalized patients. Cari is also our resident puppy trainer and holds monthly training classes to assist in making your new puppy training as enjoyable as possible. She is working hard at becoming one of our best radiology technicians. Cari lives in the Harrisburg area with her husband Devon and are the proud owners of 3 dogs and 2 cats.

  • Cheryl Smith


    Cheryl is a Veterinary technician who joined our staff in 2002. She assists the doctors in the exam rooms, surgery and anywhere else her help is requested. She has a BA in Biology from UNCC. She lives in the Charlotte area with her husband Casey, their 3 cats and a dog. Cheryl can also sometimes be seen locally, playing bass guitar with her band.

    Darci came to Charlotte from Virgina.  She joined Stoney Creek Animal Hospital as a Technician. She has worked in the veterinary field as a technician since 2001. She enjoys the outdoors and horseback riding. She lives in the University area with her fiance Chris.

  • DJ DeJanes , RVT


    DJ is a registerd veterinary technician who joined Stoney Creek Animal Hospital in July of 2007. She relocated from San Francisco CA. She is a graduate of Central Carolina Community College with and associate degree in Applied Science. She has worked in the veterinary field for seven years. Her favorite interests at work include assisting in orthopedic surgery, performing lab work and helping our clients and their pets. She lives in the University area with her 2 dogs, Reeses and Zoey.     Robin Little has worked at Stoney Creek since 2002. She is a graduate of UNCC. Her dog Macy was a stray puppy adopted from Stoney Creek. Her "family" also includes a green lizard. Robin enjoys country music, baseball and horseback riding. She lives in the Concord area with her husband Jeremy

  • Nicole Ryan


    Nicole moved to Charlotte in 2004 from Massachusetts. As a lover of animals, she left a position in retail in 2005 to join our kennel staff. She has since transferred to our Technician department as an assistant. Nicole has four cats (Gracie,Bubba,Oscar and Alice) and a dog named Betty.

    Mike came to work at Stoney Creek Animal Hospital in 2003 working as a kennel assisant in our boarding area. He is currently working as a Technician assistant in our treatment area and plans to attend Gaston College to become a registered Veterinary Technician.   • Mary Stump


    Mary Stump began working for Dr. Beldegreen in 1989 at our former hospital, Newell Hickory Animal Hospital.  As Supervisor of Client Services, Mary's special talent is her superb customer service.  Mary's "desire to please" makes her a favorite of many of our clients.  When not at work, Mary spends time looking after her 2 spoiled dogs and her warm , fuzzy husband Jerry.

    Debbie Wisniewski moved here from New York along with her 3 dogs and 4 cats.  Having a 7 pet household, Debbie knows first hand what it is like when your "family member" becomes sick and needs veterinary care.  As a member of our front office staff, she looks forward to assisting you in any way possible.

    Susan Sturtevant is a receptionist who joined our staff in July 2004. She is a long time client and Susan has been a volunteer for 12 years at the Carolina Raptor Center. She currently shares her home with 9 cats.

    Renee moved to Charlotte from Las Vegas and joined the Stoney Creek Animal Hospital team in 2005. She has six years experience as a veterinary receptionist and looks forward to helping you and your pet with all your pet care needs.

       Seieda currently attends UNC Charlotte majoring in Elementary Education.  Although she has a passion for working with children, Seieda has always had a soft spot in her heart for animals; especially  dogs. Her love for animals brings Seieda to Stoney Creek. She looks forward to meeting you and your pets.   • Amanda Allen


    Amanda Allen joined our kennel staff in 2002. Amanda is one of our "lead" kennel staff members.  Amanda lives with her daughters Hailey and Hannah,2 cats, Lena & Sylvia and her dog, Dyna. Dyna is fond of taking walks and swimming.

    Lisa Bauer joined the Stoney Creek kennel staff in 2003. She lives in Charlotte with her dog  Catalina. Besides being an animal lover, she is an avid reader and sports fan.

    Sandra is a part-time kennel assistant who joined our staff in July 2004. She is a long time client who works as a registered nurse. Sandra has been a volunteer for many years at the Carolina Raptor Center. She currently shares her home with 8 cats.

    John and his wife Karen relocated to Charlotte in 1997. They live in the University area with their dog Jake. John formerly worked in the textile industry. His love for animals brought him to a new career at Stoney Creek Animal Hospital; caring for our client's pets.

    Joel is a graduate of UNCC. He is hoping to continue his studies at the University of Florida, possibly to become a Veterinarian. He has worked in the animal care field for seven years.  He lives in the university area with his dog Siler.

    Cathy relocated to the Charlotte area from Oregon in 2007. She has been grooming animals since 2004.
